Saudi Arabia: Filipino Maid Abused, Discriminated for her Faith

January 1st, 2010

Abusive employers Housemaids Saudi Arabia Working conditions

AsiaNews carried a story yesterday about a Filipino maid who was abused and discriminated for her Catholic faith. Because of this abuse, the maid recently returned to the Philippines, before the end of her work contract.

Norma Caldera worked in Saudi Arabia for seven months as a domestic worker and was never allowed to leave her employer’s house during that time. She was mocked on a daily basis for her faith by her employers. When they found out that she’s a catholic they unilaterally cut her pay from $1,000 to $700 per month. On Ramadan Caldera was forced to fast with the family, while continuing to do her work. On top of that, she was not given a room or a bed and forced to sleep on the kitchen floor or in a tent in the backyard.

Arabs are the most evil countries to work because of their twisted belief to their sanatic prophet muhamad. Arabs cannot even get along with the other Muslim religions out there and they are killing each other. What more for the true religion, the Catholics. Christians bibles speaks of peace, love, and brotherhood/ sisterhood of all human being regardless of national oriigin, while the Koran speaks of hatred and killing of non Arab Muslims or non. Muslims throughout the word.

Alex, Arabs or Muslims aren’t evil. The people running this website are Arab Muslims and we care about the rights of the Christian migrant workers among us. Your take of the Qur’an is wrong, when it mentions the Jewish and Christian prophets, it talks about them with respect and admiration.
I agree with southingtonian, those people who abused this maid, or anyone who abuses a maid, is forgetting the real tenets of Islam.

Shame on those people, they thrown away the teachings of the great religion of Islam because Islam teaches us how to treat people with dignity whatever there religion and prophet Mohammad ( peace be upon him) taghut us to “give the employee his/her right before his/her sweat dries”.

All my compassion with this lady & all my prayrs with her to get her right back.

I strongly ask the Saudi authorities to bring those people to court and put them under the islamic justice.

May ALLAH help her and her family and guide the employers(criminals) to admit their sins and give her her rights back and ask ALLAH for forgiveness. One final thing, they should remember that:

    ISLAM =JUSTICE+MERCY not Injustice+Creulty.

ALLAH AKBAR ( GOD is great)

I agree with Mr. S.Ahmed, but the problem is that, in case of KSA, justice thru following regular judicial system in this country is somehow difficult to attain, especially if the complainant is a non-Saudi and the accused is a Saudi national. There is nothing wrong with islam faith, or any religion, if you have read their books. I am talking about the person’s attitude, yes, there as some saudis (take note – some, not all) who are. i don’t know what kind of education these fools have received to be not aware of basic human rights.

I am hoping this condition will improved in the near future.

It is really shameful to note that in all Gulf countries the migrant workers are abused & then using the stringent Islamic Sharia Laws the persons who abuse the migrant workers in turn put blame on the workers only. I only have one question to all – why is it that Muslims are always so barbaric ? Whether it is terrorism, violence on innocent workers in name of their not being Muslims is disgusting . Why can’t Muslims live without violence & exploitation ? I always have one line in my mind whihc I read some where – ” All Muslims might not be terrrorists but the fact is that all Terrorists are Muslims ” Any Reasons ?

    To Alex,

You generalized that Arabs or Muslims believes to the “satanic” teachings of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). Let me clear you of 1 thing. Muslims are not evil and nor the teaching in the Quran. Quran tells about piece and not about killings, and it testifies what had originally and previously written on our Books which altered by scholars.

Not all arabs are bad, I have arabs friends here supporting me with good faith and intentions. and if you are a Filipino “mas wala akong tiwala sa iyo” ( “I do not trust you”) you are no better than “evil” arabs you mentioned….

    Alex,

we are all the believers of GOD don’t blame the religion… everybody says that ARAB countries is an evil place, she’s mayeb because of a lot of things happen out there, but except the religion… please do respect the religion… only people are doing this crazy thing, abusing maids… maltreatments, torturing maids… but infact both bible and quran thought us how to love and to be faithful to GOD not mentioning the messengers…. there is only one GOD and HE’s the only powerful…
