Housemaids Lebanon Legal cases Women

Migrant Rights has extensively covered the abuses of female domestic workers in Lebanon. Now, some of these women are summoning the courage to fight back against their abusers by bringing legal cases against them. This article in AFP tells the story of 22 year old Nanda, a Sri Lankan woman who is one of the first to break the silence. She is taking legal action with the help of Lebanese NGO Caritas against her employer who semi-starved her, forced her to work for seven days a week and turned a blind eye when the children of the household beat her.

Caritas says that they hope that Nanda will be able to repeat the success of Filipina maid Jonaline Malibagu, who won a landmark case in 2009, resulting in the imprisonment of her employer.

The Saudis appear ignorant to the civilized world and frankly shouldn’t have any servants. All countries supplying these laborers should recall them home and pay their passage and then never again allow their citizens to go there.

Such is a message that the ignoramuses’ will understand.

By holding 1800 prisoners for petty BS, the Saudis are only putting themselves in the same class as Bin Ladin.

If they truely are not terrorists, they would not terrorize those that come to their country to work for them.

There is only one way to treat terrorists – kill them. Philippines, what are you waiting for. Detain 1800 Saudis in the Philippines and do a prisoner exchange.
