Lieutenant-Colonel Walid Mohammad Kanfish, director of Al Ma’murah police station, said the operations room received a call at dawn on Tuesday about an incident involving one car. Police said the driver was driving at high speed on Ras Al Khaimah Bridge towards Al Nakheel area when he lost control of the vehicle after entering a roundabout. The car overturned and rolled several times and settled in the land in front of Civil Defence. The five Indian interns, all in their 20s and from Kerala, were travelling in the same car, he said. Two of them were killed on the spot, while the three other passengers sustained critical injuries and were taken to the nearest hospital for treatment. The deceased were identified as Arjun Vimal Thamp, 24, and Athul Gopakumar Gopan, 23, were working at interns at a nearby hotel.
