Sri Lanken war widow Nathkulasinham Nesemalhar was promised a maid's job in Muscat for which she would receive $150 USD monthly. When she arrived from Colombo in March 2017, she was made to live in a poorly-ventilated and dimly-lit room with fifteen other women. Nesemalhar and the others were made to clean various homes throughout the day with no pay. She was repatriated after intervention from the Sri Lanken government.
