On April 22, 2010

UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Navi Pillai is in Bahrain today as part of her 10-day tour of the GCC countries.

Bahraini human rights activists will be attending a high-level meeting with Pillai in Manama this evening, according to this article from The Gulf Daily News:

There are a number of major issues we hope to discuss," Bahrain Human Rights Watch Society's secretary-general Faisal Fulad told the GDN yesterday.

"First, we want to talk about the matter of human rights for migrant workers in Bahrain.

"This is something that gets a lot of publicity in Bahrain, but there are still some terrible problems.

Pillai's tour of the region is an unprecedented effort by the UN to engage more actively with governments and civil society in the GCC.
