Flexible work permit for undocumented workers: Bahrain

On October 17, 2016

Bahrain is contemplating a 'flexible' work permit that will allow those without legal visa to work for multiple employers.

This would be applicable only for those who have overstayed their visa in the country due to being exploited by their employers, according to Jameel Humaidan, the chairman of the Labour and Market Regulatory Authority (LMRA).

This will not apply to licensed professions like nursing and engineering, according to a report by Gulf Daily News.

Around 10,000 illegal workers are likely to integrated into the labour market through the new scheme.

It is not clear if this will apply to domestic workers as well.
