Fund a Futoor for migrant workers in the Gulf

Ramadan is a time when communities in the Gulf come together to break fast in large communal gatherings. Families and philanthropic organisations often set up temporary iftar tents in open spaces, and Mosques offer communal meals after the evening prayers. These facilities are organised in the spirit of Ramadan for everyone – including families, those spending the holy month alone, and those in need.

Migrant workers across the region have been severely affected by the fallout of Covid19. Many were relying on their local Mosques being open to enjoy a hot meal and break their fasts. With stay-at-home orders and social distancing measures in place, this is no longer possible.

Through partners on-ground, we’re aiming to provide iftar to 1,000 migrant workers every day this Ramadan.  Most of these workers do not have the facilities to cook their own meals. The fundraising goal has been calculated based on the cost of a prepared meal:

USD 1.60 per meal per person

x 1000 people

x 30 days

= USD 48,000

(Water, dates, Laban, and fruits will be sponsored in-kind)

Meals will be provided to workers of all faiths and nationalities, and be safely delivered to their accommodation just before Iftar.

It’s difficult to time for most of us, and any donation will go a long way. 100% of all donations will go directly to migrant workers in need.

Any funds raised beyond the goal will be used for additional food and housing support.
